International Conference for Undergraduate Research

The International Conference for Undergraduate Research (ICUR) is an opportunity for students at UNL to share research from any field of study on an international stage. ICUR was established in 2013 by Monash University in Australia and the University of Warwick in Great Britain. Through a network of participating institutions spanning 8 countries across 5 continents, the best in undergraduate research is showcased at ICUR each year. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is one of fourteen participating institutions and joined the conference in 2020.

I learned a lot from participating in ICUR. It not only refined my skills for presenting research, but it also gave me the opportunity to learn about research going on around the world.

The conference aims to cultivate student growth through engagement in a supportive international academic community tailored for undergraduate students. Committed to offering meaningful international experience, student presenters and attendees are:

• Encouraged to look beyond their own experiences to see the complexities and interconnectedness of the wider world.
• Challenged to examine their work from an international perspective and draw out aspects of potential impact on a global scale.
• Exposed to new ideas, approaches and solutions.
• Enabled to enter an interdisciplinary, international research conversation unlike others they have experienced.

Participating students can look forward to receiving constructive criticism from peers on their research and gain a unique opportunity to engage in a worldwide conference without leaving the comfort of their home campus. Participants can work with mentors and students in similar fields to prepare presentations and ICUR coordinators and mentors are available for support along the way.

ICUR 2024

The 2024 academic conference is hosted by the University of Warwick from June 26th to 27th, 2024. Undergraduate students from UNL will be able to present their research through video-linked sessions from city campus. Other participating institutions will coordinate their campuses in the same manner. Final presentations should be no more than 10 minutes in length.

Timeline

• Early December: Call for abstracts opens
• December-February: Online training and community networking opportunities
• Early June: Abstract submissions close
• June 1: research to be presented should be complete

The coordinators at ICUR will provide support for all participating students and there is a chance for the students to publish their research in Reinvention, a journal for undergraduate student research. For questions specific to UNL and not answered in the ICUR FAQ, please contact honors@unl.edu
