Successful Teaching with Affordable Resources

Make course content more affordable with Successful Teaching with Affordable Resources. STAR is a campus initiative to decrease the cost of student education by making access to textbooks and course content more affordable. Since 2019, these efforts have saved students over $6 million at the university. STAR leverages the resources of the Office of the Executive Vice-Chancellor, University Libraries, Information Technology Services, and the Center for Transformative Teaching. Learn more about the initiative at the STAR webpage.

Accessibility & Universal Design for Learning

The CTT instructional designers keep up-to-date with new methods and technologies for instructors to maximize accessibility and universal design for learning in courses. The Inclusive Course Checklist, Accessibility and UDL Instructor Resource, and Accessibility Essentials Checklist, developed by our designers, are an excellent place to start when making sure your course and classroom meet students needs. If you still need help with accessibility and UDL in your course, contact your college's instructional designer for further assistance.

Teaching@UNL is a course in Canvas that is designed for all university instructors, whether you are a graduate teaching assistant, a lecturer, a professor of practice, or a tenure-line faculty member. If you are an instructor of record, you will see this course on your Canvas dashboard. If you do not yet have Canvas access, please contact us. The seven-module course is designed to serve as both an initial orientation and an on-going resource.

Teaching Support Network

Teaching is a complicated practice filled with nuance and individuality. Thankfully, there are instructors across the university who have put significant effort into reflecting on teaching practices. Participants in TSN have agreed to lend support for any instructor who would like peer guidance. These individuals may also be a valuable resource if you’re looking for someone to observe your teaching. To learn more about the network, visit the TSN webpage.

Faculty-led Inquiry into Reflective Scholarly Teaching Program

FIRST is a professional development program that provides a model for how you can document, assess, and make visible your teaching and your students’ learning. Even if you value and support excellence in teaching, it is often difficult to capture the intellectual work of your teaching in a form that can be conveyed easily to others. This year-long program supports faculty in documenting learning through workshops, writing retreats, small group discussions with peers, and general discussions about pedagogy. Learn more on the webpage.

Reflective Practitioner Program

Fostering high-caliber teaching continues to be a priority for the university. Many instructors across our institution are already deeply committed to advancing the practice of teaching, but, because this work is unique and personal, it has been difficult to recognize and celebrate it in a formal way. The Reflective Practitioner Program seeks to encourage, recognize, and reward professional development and community building in teaching and learning at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Learn more about the program on the RPP webpage.
