Lecture reaction is a strategy used to elicit deeper learning on a topic just covered in a lecture. The lecture hall or classroom is divided into four sections and students in each section are asked to review the lecture material from one of four roles. The four roles are:

  1. Questioners: generate two questions about the topic
  2. Modelers: provide examples or applications for the topic
  3. Arguers: finds aspects of the topic to disagree with or dispute
  4. Validators: explain which points or evidence for the topic is most convincing

Each section of the class works collaboratively in one or more groups (depending on the size of the class) to device a response for their specific role. After collaborating, each major group presents their information for their role as part of a whole class discussion.
