The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and the Center for Transformative Teaching are pleased to sponsor the spring 2021 Teaching and Learning Symposium on March 18 and 19 hosted via Zoom. The symposium provides an opportunity to engage in conversations about teaching and learning and to hear from experts on emerging issues in improving student outcomes to improve teaching at Nebraska.

Thursday, March 18
Attendees may asynchronously browse the virtual posters created by University of Nebraska-Lincoln instructors and staff that highlight techniques in teaching and learning.
Welcome from director Nick Monk, Center for Transformative Teaching, and introduction of keynote speaker Bryan Dewsbury.
The keynote will explore the connection between inclusive teaching practices and education as a general practice of freedom, using a reflective, historical approach and data from an introductory STEM classroom. A pathway will be provided for educators to consider their own agency and responsibility for enacting inclusive approaches in their classroom.

What is the profile of diversity in our student community? What equity differences exist among our students when they arrive at our campus? How successful are we at including all our students in graduation?
What is your why? | Meaning and purpose in inclusive teaching
Participants will look inward to position themselves, their thoughts, and their sense of calling as educators in the service of practice. The session will allow participants the opportunity to begin an exploration of how data derived from this session might help us to us consider our students differently.

The social context of students locally and nationally will be explored to better determine how we can design inclusive experiences for them, and also leverage key stakeholders for this purpose.
Symposium adjourns for day
Friday, March 19
In this session participants will review inclusive practices they have identified, and workshop ways to both implement them in classrooms and add assessments to determine their impact. List of inclusive practices (DOCX).
Participants are invited to ask questions on remaining issues that need to be addressed.
